Søstre Magazine is committed to making our website https://www.sostremag.com/ accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe that access to independent journalism and editorial content should not be limited by ability, and we are continually working to improve the accessibility of our Website.

This Accessibility Statement applies to all pages and content published at https://www.sostremag.com/.

Our commitment

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including:

Visual impairments, including blindness and low vision
Hearing impairments and deafness
Motor and physical disabilities
Cognitive and neurological disabilities
Speech disabilities

We are also aware of our obligations under the Norwegian Equality and Anti-Discrimination Act (likestillings- og diskrimineringsloven) and the EU Web Accessibility Directive (2016/2102), which applies to public-sector bodies but reflects best practice standards we voluntarily adopt.

Current accessibility status

Søstre Magazine is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partial conformance means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard, primarily due to constraints of the Wix platform on which our Website is built.

We have taken the following steps to improve accessibility:

Our Website uses a responsive design that adapts to different screen sizes and devices
Text can be resized using standard browser controls without loss of content or functionality
We use descriptive page titles and headings to help readers navigate content
We aim to provide meaningful alt text on editorial images
Links are written to be descriptive where possible, rather than using generic phrases such as "click here"
Colour contrast on body text meets or approaches WCAG 2.1 AA minimum ratios
Our Website is navigable by keyboard on most pages

Known limitations

We are aware of the following areas where our Website does not yet fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. We are committed to addressing these over time:

Some older images may lack descriptive alt text — we are conducting an ongoing audit and updating these
Some embedded third-party content (such as social media posts or video players) may not be fully accessible, as we do not control the accessibility of third-party platforms
Certain interactive elements generated by the Wix platform may not be fully compatible with all screen readers — we are working with our platform settings to mitigate this
PDF documents linked from the Website may not be fully accessible to screen reader users
Some video content may not yet have captions or audio descriptions — we aim to add these for all new video content going forward

We do not consider these limitations to be acceptable long-term, and we will update this statement as improvements are made.

Third-party content and tools

Our Website uses tools and integrations provided by third parties, including Wix (our hosting and website platform), newsletter delivery services, and social media embeds. The accessibility of these tools is partly outside our direct control. Where we identify accessibility barriers introduced by third-party tools, we will seek alternatives or workarounds where possible.

We review and update this Accessibility Statement at least once a year, or whenever significant changes are made to the Website. We are committed to improving accessibility on an ongoing basis and will reflect those improvements in future versions of this statement.
